Mercedes-Benz introduced their W123 based coupes for the 1978 model year. Known by their chassis code C123, these coupes were produced with gasoline or diesel engines. C123 cars are given the designator 'C,' to their model name. Variants produced include the 230C, 230CE, 280C , 280CE, 300CD, and the 300CD Turbodiesel. Here's how to buy a great example When Mercedes launched the new 200-280 series (Code name W123) in 1976, it seemed to be more of the same. Mercedes-Benz introduced the W123 generation of their E-Class for the 1977 model year. The successor to the W114 & W115, the W123 was a series of mid size luxury cars available as Sedans (W123), Coupes (C123), or Wagons (S123). A long wheelbase version of the sedan known as the V123 Limousine was also offered. The W123 was the Swiss Army Knife of cars. And while Mercedes-Benz never lopped the top off one itself, Crayford here in the UK was more than willing, resulting in the St. Tropez cabriolet version. Our Ed's old W123 Coupe. Mechanically, the W123 Mercedes-Benz brought a lot over from the W114 before it. Steering, suspension, brakes and so on.

The 280CE model from w123 is one of the most under appreciated classic from Mercedes, maybe because w123 was so common and people didn't really notice the rarer coupé among the numerous sedans. Now most of the sedans are rusted away and the luckier coupés are left so people start noticing these cars again. At launch, the W123 was available as a saloon and coupe (CE), but in 1977, Mercedes-Benz launched its first estate car, known as the T, for Touring and Transport. The internal designation was S123, with the 'S' standing for Stationswagen. Today, the T is the most sought-after model, not least because it can provide reliable everyday.
The W123 was made by Mercedes-Benz between 1976 and 1986. It predates the modern naming convention, but this is essentially the predecessor to the E-Class executive saloon and was an amazing vehicle in its day, built to last and available with airbags.. However, this Coupe model dubbed the C123 (chassis name) is rarer with just 99,884 made. This was as exciting as the W123 allowed itself to get: a classic twin-cam straight-six created in the late '60s to give the W114 'new generation' saloons and coupés (from '71 onwards) the performance they needed in the face of increasingly strong opposition from the new six-cylinder BMW s.
