Princess Celestia, called Queen Celestia in one comic and early development, is an Alicorn pony, the former co-ruler of Equestria alongside her younger sister Princess Luna, and the adoptive aunt of Princess Cadance. Princess Celestia is a G4 Pegasus Unicorn Pony. She is a major character in the series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and has been heavily featured in merchandise. The main reason Celestia is pink (and will be for the foreseeable future, not counting the special edition Toys R' Us line they're coming out with, where she's her normal color) is because the people at Hasbro aren't really the ones who decide the final coloring/accessories/packaging/price, etc. Twilight begins the story as the protégée of Princess Celestia, who tasks her with studying the magical properties of friendship and reporting her findings.
